Overview

About this park

This park sits on the site of Canemah's first public school, built in 1870 on a bluff above the Willamette.

"Canemah" derives from a Chinook word for canoe place, reflecting the deep-water harbor below Willamette Falls that made this one of the region's major indigenous canoe landings before settlers converted it into a riverboat-building hub through the 1850s–1870s.

Community

Friends & partners

Oregon City annexed Canemah in 1928, but the neighborhood has remained distinct. When the school was no longer needed, a volunteer-built park was established on the bluff in 1949.
